Phone Order Prayer

"Sometimes when we pray it's like we're picking up a phone, ordering groceries and then we hang up the phone--we put in out order, and we don't think any more about it than that. But if we take a few minutes just to think about out particular need in a given moment, then prayer becomes more meaningful."

President Gordon B. Hinckley

His Will

"A key to improved prayer is to learn to ask the right questions. Consider changing from asking for the things you want to honestly seeking what He wants for you. Then as you learn His will, pray that you will be led to have the strength to fulfill it."

Richard G. Scott, Apr. 2007, General Conference "Using the Supernal Gift of Prayer"

Effective

"We pray to our Heavenly Father in the sacred name of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Prayer is most effective when we strive to be clean and obedient, with worthy motives, and are willing to do what He asks. Humble, trusting prayer brings direction and peace.
Don’t worry about your clumsily expressed feelings. Just talk to your compassionate, understanding Father. You are His precious child whom He loves perfectly and wants to help. As you pray, recognize that Father in Heaven is near and He is listening."
Richard G. Scott, Apr. 2007, General Conference "Using the Supernal Gift of Prayer"

To Every Soul

"Prayer is a supernal gift of our Father in Heaven to every soul. Think of it: the absolute Supreme Being, the most all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful personage, encourages you and me, as insignificant as we are, to converse with Him as our Father. Actually, because He knows how desperately we need His guidance."

Richard G. Scott, Apr. 2007, General Conference "Using the Supernal Gift of Prayer"

What is Prayer

"First, prayer is a humble acknowledgment that God is our Father and that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Second, it is a sincere confession of sin and transgression and a request for forgiveness. Third, it is recognition that we need help beyond our own ability. Fourth, it is an opportunity to express thanksgiving and gratitude to our Creator. It is important that we frequently say: “We thank Thee … , “ “We acknowledge before Thee … ,” “We are grateful unto Thee …” Fifth, it is a privilege to ask Deity for specific blessings."

James E. Faust, Apr. 2002, General Conference "A Lifetime of Prayer"

A Great Privilege

"This morning I bear witness of the importance of prayer. Access to our Creator through our Savior is surely one of the great privileges and blessings of our lives. I have learned from countless personal experiences that great is the power of prayer. No earthly authority can separate us from direct access to our Creator."

James E. Faust, Apr. 2002, General Conference "A Lifetime of Prayer"

Conquer Through Prayer

"Each of us has problems that we cannot solve and weaknesses that we cannot conquer without reaching out through prayer to a higher source of strength."

James E. Faust, Apr. 2002, General Conference "A Lifetime of Prayer"

Nurturing by the Prayer of Faith

"Testimony requires the nurturing by the prayer of faith, the hungering for the word of God in the scriptures, and the obedience to the truth."

Henry B. Eyring, Apr. 2011, General Conference "A Living Testimony"

Enough is Enough

"The Lord can hear a simple prayer, offered in faith, in half a dozen words, and he will recognize fasting that may not continue more than twenty-four hours, just as readily and as effectually as He will answer a prayer of a thousand words and fasting for a month. … The Lord will accept that which is enough, with a good deal more pleasure and satisfaction than that which is too much and unnecessary.”

Joseph F. Smith, in Conference Report, Oct. 1912

Revelation

"Revelation is communication from Heavenly Father to His children on earth. As we ask in faith, we can receive revelation upon revelation and knowledge upon knowledge and come to know the mysteries and peaceable things that bring joy and eternal life."

David A. Bednar, Apr. 2008, General Conference "Pray Always"

More Meaningful Prayer

"Prayer becomes more meaningful as we counsel with the Lord in all of our doings, as we express heartfelt gratitude, and as we pray for others."
